In this topic, we are going to show you how to build a DNA model at home step by step for your science project or exhibitions.

This homemade DNA model science project is done using materials like a cardboard box, color papers and hot glue gun which is easily available at home at low cost.

What is DNA?

DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid.

DNA is made up of molecules called nucleotides.

Each molecule nucleotide contains a phosphate group, a sugar group, and a nitrogen base.

Double helix that carries genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses is termed as Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Polynucleotides are two DNA stands that are composed of simpler monomeric units called nucleotides.

How to make a DNA model using Waste materials step by step Video?

In this video, we will show steps by step video instructions on how to build a DNA model at home easy way.

First take ice cream stick and mark both the ends of it using pencil. Next cut them off with the help of scissor.

Repeat the steps to create multiple long ice cream sticks.

Now take another set of ice cream sticks and mark it mark both ends of it using pencil however make sure that this stick is small the others.

Repeat the steps to create multiple smaller ice cream sticks.

Next wrap blue, yellow and white strips of paper around multiple long ice cream sticks.

Similarly, use red, green and white strips of paper around multiple small ice cream sticks. Now label long sticks with D, C, G, and D whereas small sticks with D, A, T, and D.

Make two small circles from cardboard and create a central hole using a sharp stick.

Glue them together and paste white circular paper on top of it. Similarly, make one big circle from cardboard and create a central hole using a sharp stick.

Now glue a small circle over the big circle to form a base. Attach a long stick on to the base, now alternatively stick long ice cream sticks labeled (D, C, G, and D) and small ice cream sticks labeled (D, A, T, and D).

Once DNA stand is ready, finally take a long black thick string and stick it at the ends of the small and long ice cream sticks with the help of hot glue.
