Objective:
To explain the working principle of a simple vacuum cleaner using a plastic bottle, a DC motor, and a 9V battery.
Materials Required:
- Plastic bottle (e.g., 1-liter bottle)
- DC motor (with fan blade)
- 9V battery
- Switch
- Wires
- Glue or tape
- Scissors or utility knife
- Fine mesh or cloth (for the filter)
- Cardboard or plastic for the nozzle
- Rubber band or elastic (optional)
Working Principle Explanation:
- Basic Setup:
- The plastic bottle serves as the main body of the vacuum cleaner, housing the motor and acting as the dust container.
- The DC motor with a fan blade creates suction when powered by the battery.
- Airflow is directed through a nozzle and filter system to collect dust and debris.
- Construction:
- Bottle Preparation:
- Cut the bottom off the plastic bottle to create an opening for air intake.
- Make a small hole in the bottle cap for the DC motor shaft to fit through.
- Motor Installation:
- Attach the fan blade to the shaft of the DC motor.
- Insert the motor shaft through the hole in the bottle cap and secure the motor to the cap using glue or tape.
- Ensure the fan blade is inside the bottle, and the motor is on the outside.
- Nozzle Attachment:
- Create a nozzle from cardboard or plastic and attach it to the cut bottom of the bottle.
- Secure the nozzle to the bottle with glue or tape, ensuring a tight fit to prevent air leaks.
- Filter Installation:
- Place a fine mesh or cloth inside the bottle near the nozzle to act as a filter, trapping dust and debris while allowing air to pass through.
- Secure the filter in place with a rubber band or tape.
- Bottle Preparation:
- Wiring the Circuit:
- Connect the positive terminal of the 9V battery to one terminal of the switch.
- Connect the other terminal of the switch to one terminal of the DC motor.
- Connect the negative terminal of the DC motor back to the negative terminal of the 9V battery, completing the circuit.
- Operation:
- Turn on the switch to activate the DC motor.
- The motor spins the fan blade, creating a low-pressure area inside the bottle.
- This low-pressure area generates suction, drawing air (and dust) into the nozzle and through the filter.
- The dust and debris are trapped by the filter, while the clean air passes through the fan and exits the bottle.
Step by Step Guide on vacuum cleaner working model science exhibition
Summary Explanation:
- Suction Creation: The DC motor powers the fan blade, generating a low-pressure area inside the bottle that creates suction.
- Air Intake: Dusty air is drawn in through the nozzle due to the suction created by the fan.
- Filtration: A mesh or cloth filter inside the bottle traps dust and debris, allowing only clean air to pass through.
- Exhaust: The clean air exits the bottle through the motor and fan assembly.
