DIY Cleaning Tools from Paper and Cardboard: A Contribution to the Clean India Mission

Introduction:

The Clean India Mission, or Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is a commendable initiative that encourages cleanliness and sanitation practices across India.

In this project, we’ll create essential cleaning tools using paper and cardboard, emphasizing the importance of resourcefulness and recycling in maintaining a clean environment.

Let’s embark on this journey of crafting functional cleaning tools for a cleaner India!

Materials Needed:

  1. Cardboard sheets
  2. Construction paper or colored paper
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue or adhesive tape
  5. Marker or pen
  6. Ruler

Creating Cleaning Tools:

1. DIY Broom:

Step 1: Handle

  • Cut a strip of cardboard, approximately 1 inch wide and 12 inches long, for the broom handle.

Step 2: Bristles

  • Cut thin strips of colored paper, about 4-5 inches long, for the broom bristles. Attach one end of each strip to the top of the handle using glue or tape.

Step 3: Secure Bristles

  • Fold and press the strips downward to create a fan shape, securing them in place.

2. Dustpan:

Step 1: Base

  • Cut a rectangular piece of cardboard for the dustpan base. It should be about 6 inches by 8 inches.

Step 2: Sides

  • Cut two strips of cardboard, about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide, for the sides of the dustpan. Attach them to the longer sides of the base.

Step 3: Handle

  • Attach a small strip of cardboard vertically to create a handle for the dustpan.

3. Trash Grabber:

Step 1: Arm Extension

  • Cut a long strip of cardboard, approximately 1 inch wide and 18 inches long, for the grabber arm.

Step 2: Gripper

  • At one end of the arm, cut out a “V” shape to create a gripper. This will help pick up trash.

Step 3: Handle

  • Attach a smaller strip of cardboard to the opposite end of the arm to serve as a handle.

4. Window Squeegee:

Step 1: Blade

  • Cut a strip of colored paper, about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long, to serve as the squeegee blade.

Step 2: Handle

  • Cut a small piece of cardboard and attach it perpendicularly to the top of the blade to serve as the handle.

5. Scrub Brush:

Step 1: Bristles

  • Cut small strips of colored paper, approximately 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide, to serve as the brush bristles. Attach them to a small piece of cardboard for the base.

Step 2: Handle

  • Attach a cardboard strip vertically to create a handle for the brush.

Conclusion:

Through these DIY cleaning tools made from paper and cardboard, we’ve demonstrated that with creativity and resourcefulness, we can contribute to the Clean India Mission.

These tools, though simple, represent the collective effort needed to maintain cleanliness in our surroundings. Let’s continue to innovate and work towards a cleaner, more sustainable India!
