# Eggs & Salt Water – Water Density Science Experiment – DIY

## INTRODUCTION

In this topic, we are going to show you how to build an Egg and salt water density experiments at home for your science project or exhibitions.

This homemade science experiment on saltwater density is done using materials like pure water, glass, egg and salt which is easily available at home at low cost.

## Saltwater density experiment

Whenever salt is dissolved in water, just like ocean water, that dissolved salt adds to the mass of the water and makes the water-dense.

Objects sink in liquids when their density is greater than the liquid they are in. Water that has Salt in it is denser.

This helps to keep less denser material floating.

## Does Salt Water Egg float science experiment step by step video?

In this video, we will show steps by step video instructions on how much salt does it take to make an egg float science project

Place your first glass on a flat, sturdy surface and fill it with three fourth of pure water.

Now drop an egg into the water and observer, slowly the egg will float down and settle at the bottom of the glass as the egg does not float in pure water.

Take a second glass and fill it with three fourth of pure water and now add one tablespoon of salt to it.

Now stir it continuously till the salt gets completely dissolved into water to form a homogeneous liquid.

Now drop an egg into the water and observe, slowly the egg will float into the saltwater.

Take the third glass and fill it with half of the pure water and now add one tablespoon of salt to it.

Stir it continuously till the salt gets completely dissolved into water to form a homogeneous liquid.

Now drop an egg into the water and observe, slowly the egg will float into the saltwater.

Now drop an egg into the water and observe, slowly the egg will float into the saltwater and next add half glass of pure water to this salted solution and you will observe that egg will float in the middle of the glass.

## Materials Used Saltwater density experiment

Materials used in this video are shown below to build an Egg and Saltwater model at home by taking the help of your parents.

• Three tall drinking glasses
• Pure water
• Egg
• Salt
• Teaspoon

## Questions & Answers on Saltwater density experiment

1. How does salt water make an egg float?

Salt is denser than water hence it will sink. When we dropped an egg in pure water it will sink until it reaches the saltwater at the bottom of the glass.

The density of saltwater prevents eggs from sinking any further hence the egg will float in the middle of the glass.

2. Do objects float better in saltwater or freshwater?

Objects float better in saltwater than freshwater.

## Conclusions

Egg and Saltwater model helps students know that egg in saltwater float better than the egg in the pure water as well as how to make it with easily available materials at home.
