Water Sources Model – Science Project for School Students

Introduction

Water is the most vital natural resource for life to exist on earth. The main sources of water are ground water, surface water and rain water. Ground water is the water found underground below the soil or in the soil itself.

Examples of ground water include wells and bore wells. Ground water contributes to the small percentage of fresh water on earth.

Surface water is the water found on the surface of the earth like rivers, lakes, ponds and seas.

Surface water caters to the human use majorly. Rain water is also used a source of water in many places where rainfall percentage is high.

The rain water can used for domestic and agricultural purposes.

In this video, we are going to show an easy way to build a DIY water sources project for your school science exhibition. The materials used in the video are easily available at your home and it is a lot of fun to create this.

Questions and Answers

  • What is the major source of water on this earth?
    • The major source of water on earth is the rainwater that flows down the rivers and moves to the sea.
  • Can you explain rainwater harvesting?
    • The rainwater can be collected in households through the use of tanks or containers and can be reused for domestic purposes. This process of reusing the rainwater from the rainfall is called as rainwater harvesting.
  • What is the distribution of water sources on earth?
    • 97% of the earth’s water is in the oceans which cannot be used for drinking purposes. Only 3% of the water on earth contributes to drinking water that comes from glaciers, ice caps, and groundwater.
  • Mention any 3 ways to conserve water at home?
    • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, preserving the rain water in barrels and stick a bucket under your shower without letting the water go waste under the drain.
