Learn how to make a beautiful States and Capitals Working Model of India using LED lights for your school exhibition or social science fair.

This DIY project combines art, map craft, and simple circuit work to help students interactively learn India’s geography. Each time you press a button for a state, its capital city lights up, making learning fun and engaging!

Materials Required:

  • Cardboard or foam board (map base)
  • Printed or hand-drawn map of India
  • LEDs (multiple colors for each capital)
  • Copper wire or conducting wire
  • Resistors (220 ohm recommended)
  • Push buttons or small toggle switches
  • 9V battery / battery pack
  • Glue, paint, markers
  • Name tags for states & capitals
  • Craft items (colored paper, borders, glitter)

How It Works:

  1. Cut or paste a map of India on cardboard.
  2. Mark and label all states and their capitals.
  3. Drill/punch holes on each capital location and insert LEDs.
  4. Connect each LED to a corresponding switch/button.
  5. When a state button is pressed, the LED on its capital lights up.
  6. Optionally, use color coding: group states into regions like North, South, East, West, Central, NE.
