INTRODUCTION
In this topic, we are going to show you how to make types of plant roots model at home for your science project or exhibitions.
This homemade science project is done using materials like cardboard, white paper and hot glue gun which is easily available at home at low cost.
What is the plant root?
The root is a non-leaf and non-nodes part of the plant’s body.
Roots 4 major functions are:
- Storage
of nutrients and food
- Inorganic
nutrients and water absorption
- Helps
in anchoring the plant to the ground and supporting it
- Competition
with other plants and vegetative reproduction
Roots synthesize cytokinin which signals how fast the shoots can grow.
The architecture of a root system are:
- Branch magnitude
- Topology
- Link length
- Root angle
- Link radius
Types of Roots
There are mainly two types of root systems.
- Taproot system
- The fibrousĀ root system
What is Tap Root System?
This root goes downwards in a vertical manner and thick in nature.
Examples of Tap Roots
- Beetroot.
- Carrot
- Raddish
- Sweet Potato
What is Fibrous root Systems
A fibrous root system is thin
Examples of Fibrous root systems are
- grass
- wheat,
- rice
- marigold,
- banana
- bamboo
- onion.
Types of roots for students at home step by step video?
In this video, we will show steps by step video instructions on how to build types of plants roots model at home easy way.
First, take a large size rectangular cardboard and draw the taproots of the plant. Cut it out with a scissor.
Paint the roots of the plant with brown color and the portion above the ground with green color. Trace it out with a black sketch pen.
Take a light blue color paper and draw the leaves and cut them out with a scissor. Stick the leaves to the plant with the help of fevicol. This completes taproot.
Take a large size rectangular cardboard and draw the fibrous roots of the plant. Cut it out with a scissor.
Take a large size rectangular cardboard and stick it with white color chart paper. Now stick the taproot plant and fibrous root plant on to this rectangular cardboard. Label the plant’s roots as shown in the video.
